Copyright and permissions

Every work in the archive is marked with one of three statuses:

  • Public domain: the work’s copyright has expired, and the text is hosted here. Translations carry their own copyright, so a translation is hosted only if it is also in the public domain or used with permission.
  • Published with permission: the author, estate or publisher has given written permission for the archive to host the text.
  • Link to free copy: the work is in copyright but freely available from its publisher or author; the archive describes it and links to that copy.

For authors, estates and publishers

If you hold the rights to a work and would like it hosted, please write to permissions@islamicarchives.org. Permission can be limited (for example, to online reading only, or to particular works), and is acknowledged on every page where the work appears.

Takedown requests

If you believe a work has been published here without the right to do so, write to permissions@islamicarchives.org with the page address and the basis of your claim. The work will be taken offline promptly while the request is reviewed.
