How to send books to your Kindle

A one-time setup of about two minutes. After that, any work with its full text in the archive can go to your Kindle with one button.

The address to approve on Amazon: books@islamicarchives.org
  1. Find your Kindle’s email address

Every Kindle device and Kindle app has its own address ending in @kindle.com. Find it in any one of these places:

    • • On the Amazon website: Sign in, open Account & Lists → Content Library (also called Manage Your Content and Devices), choose the Devices tab, then your Kindle. The address is shown as “Email”.
    • • On a Kindle e-reader: Open Settings → Your Account. It is listed as Send-to-Kindle Email.
    • • In the Kindle app (phone or tablet): Tap More → Settings. The address is listed under Send-to-Kindle Email Address.
  2. Allow Islamic Internet Archives to send to it

Amazon only accepts documents from addresses you approve. You do this once.

    • 1. On the Amazon website open Account & Lists → Content Library → Preferences.
    • 2. Scroll to Personal Document Settings and open it.
    • 3. Under Approved Personal Document E-mail List, choose Add a new approved e-mail address.
    • 4. Type books@islamicarchives.org and press Add Address.
  3. Save your Kindle address on this site (optional)

Open the Share page and add your @kindle.com address. It is then filled in automatically every time you press “Send to Kindle”. The address is kept only in your browser on this device; we never store it.

  4. Send a work

Open any work whose full text is in the archive and press Send to Kindle. Check the address and press Send. With Wi-Fi on, it usually reaches your Kindle within a few minutes. On a Kindle it appears in your Library; in the Kindle app look under Library → Docs.

If something goes wrong

The book has not arrived.

Check that books@islamicarchives.org is spelled exactly right in your approved list, that your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi, and then sync it (on a Kindle: swipe down → Sync). Amazon can take up to 15 minutes at busy times.

Amazon emailed me asking to verify the request.

Amazon sometimes asks you to confirm a delivery from a new sender. Open that email and press the verify link; the book is delivered straight after.

Amazon emailed me saying the document was rejected.

This means the sender address is not on your approved list yet. Repeat step 2, then send the work again.

Some works have no “Send to Kindle” button.

Works still in copyright are not hosted here; the archive links to a free copy elsewhere instead. Download that copy and send it to Kindle yourself using Amazon’s own Send to Kindle page or app.

Can I send to an ordinary email address instead?

Yes. Choose “Email it to me” on the work’s page, and pick EPUB, PDF or Word on the Share page.

Which format do Kindles receive?

EPUB. Amazon converts it for your device automatically, so you don’t need to choose a format.

Your Kindle address is used only to deliver the work you ask for. It is not stored on our servers. Still stuck? Write to contact@islamicarchives.org.
